As seven-day mourning period declared in Ile-Ife
Vice President Yemi
Osinbajo’s protocol officers and organisers of the Inter-Religious
Farewell Service in honour of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade
have clashed.
The incident, which took place on Friday, was over
allocation of tables to dignitaries, at the make-shift hall, where the
ceremony is to take place.
It was sparked off when one of the
Vice President’s protocol team picked a front table for his principal,
but the organisers told him that the table was already designated for
the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and other officials in the
state.
It led to a heated argument as Osinbajo’s advance team insisted on reserving the table for the Vice President.
It
took the intervention of Ife elders and prominent palace figures to
settle the argument as the table was eventually left for Aregbesola.
Osinbajo
is leading the Federal government delegation to the burial of the late
Ooni, who died early this month at a London hospital.
Meanwhile, a seven-day mourning period has been declared in Ile-Ife for the late monarch.
